Pete Prodoehl 🍕<p>I definitely like the idea of buying from a local shop… though again, twice the price is a bit rough but get, you only live once?</p><p>I very rarely spend money on fancy things for myself because I’m cheap/frugal hence the challenge/dilemma for me. </p><p>I could do the more expensive option but I’d just take a little longer to save up. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/biking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>biking</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ebike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ebike</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bikeTooter</span></a></p>

so i've been running a bit again and it's kind of slightly hard on the body these days. kind of thinking about switching to indoor biking, especially since you can read or watch a movie while doing it, though ti requires roughly 2x the time for similar stimulus to running. but i would have to think about what the most reasonable way to do the whole setup is. we have a recumbent bike but with the way it is, basically going 100 rpm at top resistance only get me to 130bpm. #biking #cycling

I mentioned how I last rode an ebike in 2006 but that's not totally true...

Back in 2015 we built a tiny electric race car using a bicycle hub motor (and half a bike) and then we rebuilt it a year later...

So I wasn't lead on the building but I drove (rode?) it quite a bit.

Maybe I go for a lighter bike, with the idea it will be closer to what I am used to, but also knowing it'll have less range, which might be okay.

I was hoping to find a solution to leaving the car at home and biking to work for a good chunk of the year, but now I don't know...

The more expensive models are a bit out of reach. Bleargh.

Sigh, well I was feeling good about getting an ebike but I stopped by a local shop and the model I was looking at is pretty much sold out everywhere. They do have newer models ($more expensive$) and some other modes so I may need to do up that whole spreadsheet of features to compare things.

Holy Crap! I biked to work... I took the (borrowed) ebike and it took 24 minutes. (I had estimated 35-40.) My route was about 7 miles. (The bike said 7, my phone said 6.7.)

This drive usually takes about 15 minutes by car. I probably spent at least a few minutes waiting at stoplights at the busier streets but taking the Oak Leaf Trail was smooth as hell.

Bicycling in Pebble Beach is temporarily restricted Saturday and Sunday, August 16-17, 2025 due to Concours d'Elegance. Also, although not restricted Monday through Friday, August 11-15, Pebble Beach Company does not recommend biking inside Pebble Beach on those five dates as well. Watch out for big trucks! Monterey County roads will see many more around August 8-17, hauling cars for “Car Week.” Our Summer Bike Buzz bikemonterey.org/bike-buzz-sum updates include a reminder about Cycling Savvy’s tips on “The 6 Things You Need to Know” to stay clear of a truck’s danger zones. cyclingsavvy.org/what-cyclists

When I thought this was a 6 mile ride I figured I could do it on my acoustic bike but it would be a workout (due to hills) but as it's 8 miles and I'd be doing it twice per day I think it's too much of a stretch to try on my Trek... But yeah, honestly this seems totally doable on an ebike.

Which means I could actually bike to work. Something I never thought I would do at this job.

Okay the sketchy part is on Hampton but it's only for 0.6 miles... after that I get to Butler where the speed limit is 25mph for about a mile. I guess I'll need to slow down to *only* 25mph there. 😅

It also looks like I could do some exploring on rides to work as there are bunch of different routes I could take.

Today I rode the ebike to Capital Drive which is 5 miles towards work... It looks like it would be 3 miles from there to get to work, so 8 miles total, which is 2 more than I estimated.

But on the ebike it was a breeze. I tried to go pretty fast, and the route I took was a perfect biking route. The first 6.5 miles should be easy, though the last 1.5 might be a bit treacherous.

I'll try Thurs or Fri if I can.
