This sort of email from a cherished colleague makes my day.
Now imagine with proper resources; without having to dance to the tune of our professions incentive structure; being empowered to teach how its done with the right incentive structure - that would be great, wouldnt it?
And all of that work actually is organized in a way that makes sense as will become more clear over the weeks and months... the journey started last summer but much longer before.
I have not spent a single penny of the ERC and am still not able to use it. The money is going to a very different research project from what I m working on now which probably is more important. Asking to change focus will just open pandoras bureaucracy box. There is no agility.
